great. i'm suffering from airplanes ears.

What is Airplane Ear?

Airplane ear is an injury to your middle ear often caused by changes in air pressure while flying. It usually occurs when you have a cold, congested nose, nasal allergy, or throat or sinus infection. Airplane ear can also occur when you drive in the mountains or go scuba diving. Airplane ear usually causes temporary ear pain and hearing loss.

Airplane ear can occur in one or both ears.

Airplane ear is also called barotrauma or barotitis media.

What Causes Airplane Ear?

Airplane ear is caused by unequal pressure between your middle ear and the cabin of the airplane. Normally, the tube that connects your middle ear to the back of your nose and throat, equalizes the pressure. However, if the tube is blocked because of congestion or some other problem, the unequal pressure on your eardrum may impair your hearing and cause ringing in your ear, dizziness and ear pain. If the tube is completely blocked, pressure changes may be severe enough to cause fluid buildup or bleeding in your middle ear.

Symptoms of Airplane Ear

Some of the most common symptoms of airplane ear are:

Discomfort or pain in your ear
Feeling of fullness or stuffiness in your ear
Slight hearing loss
Ringing in your ear
Bleeding from your ear
Dizziness
Middle ear pain
A feeling of pressure in your ear

When to Call your Doctor

If your symptoms don't disappear within a few hours or if pain persists, see your doctor. If you develop a fever, severe ear pain or drainage from your ear you should definitely call your doctor.

Complications of Airplane Ear

If airplane ear does not go away on its own, or if it is not treated properly complications may occur. The most common complications are:

Ruptured eardrum
Ear infection
Temporary hearing loss
Can Airplane Ear be Treated?

Treatment of airplane ear focuses on relieving your symptoms. Treatments include: decongestant nasal sprays, oral decongestants or oral antihistamines, antibiotics, and in severe cases, surgery.

first time i heard of this crap. haha. but sounds rather serious. my ears are still blocked. grrrr.. feel as though i have millions of fingers poke inside my ear when i talk. the echo is irritating. bad experience on the return trip home. when the plane began its descent, suddenly i felt a sharp pain in my jaw and ears. my ears were totally blocked. can't hear a thing. thought probably it will be better when the airplane opens cos maybe the pressure too high or what crap and who knows when it opens, my ears were still blocked though i can hear some stuff now. horrifying experience. the descent was really a pain for me literally.

back from bangkok. everything is so cheap there! from food to drinks to shopping. their 7-11 is outrageous. a bottle of mineral water cost S$0.50! COOL! a plate of chicken rice less than S$2! and best of all, a t-shirt cost less than S$5!! WOOHOO!! haha. but bangkok opened my eyes. guess i was spoilt in singapore. singapore is just too fortunate. first time i really see beggars openly in the streets. really glad i was born in singapore. can't imagine myself born in thailand. but thai ppl are quite hardworking. and their taxi drivers are worse than our taxi drivers. if you think singapore taxi drivers are dangerous drivers, obviously you haven't seen bangkok's taxi drivers. we had a hell ride in one cab. the driver just cut here cut there, changing lanes at will even though there was a jam. once, he even drove diagonally, changing 6 lanes at one from the right to the left. COOL! their roads are terrible. a narrow alley filled with cars in both directions. you really have to squeeze against the side of the road while walking to prevent being knocked down. haha. overall, it was an eye opening experience. ooh and language is a big problem there. they dun understand english, even if you tell them bangkok international airport, some of them still won't know what you are saying. so it takes patience and luck to get around thailand.

wires wires and wires

a security guard who blows whistles and talk on walkie talkie while controlling traffic though i feel that it's reduntant. no one listens to them on the road. haha
